The ocean. Right now.

Australia's most advanced fishing chart.

Engineered for anglers who fish the reefs, shelf and beyond. Sea temperature, currents, altimetry, chlorophyll, depth, wind, waves and marine park zones, drawn from the world's leading ocean agencies onto one chart. Tap the water and read the real value underneath.

The layers

Eight layers. One chart.

Switch on what matters for the day, exactly as you do in the app. Each layer keeps its own source, time and colour scale, so you always know what you are looking at.

Sea surface temperature across Bass Strait and Tasmania, with isotherm lines

Sea surface temperature

Find the edge, not just the temperature. Hourly Himawari-9 snapshots, 750 m VIIRS overpasses, nightly composites and gap-free analyses, with isotherms that bunch where the water changes fast and stop honestly at cloud.

Currents

The water you will actually drift on. Total surface current with the tide in it, every two hours for the next two days, then the steady daily set out to ten. Measured HF radar wherever a site covers your water.

Altimetry

Sea level measured from orbit, and the surest way to find an eddy. Warm-core eddies stand high and cold-core eddies sit low, and the altimeter reads straight through the cloud that blinds temperature.

Chlorophyll off Hervey Bay and Bundaberg, with the timeline at the foot of the chart

Observation · Analysis

Chlorophyll

The colour of the sea, read as plankton. Where green water meets blue, bait gathers and fish follow. Line a colour edge up with a temperature break and you have the strongest front on the chart.

Depth

The seabed in detail. Contours, multidirectional relief shading and your own depth bands, from a multi-resolution survey composite. Download a region's high-detail archive once and it stays on your phone for good.

Forecast

Wind

Forecast wind as a moving flow field with arrows, so direction reads even in a still frame. ECMWF leads, chosen for the lowest error against more than a million satellite wind measurements around Australia. GFS gives you a second opinion.

Live wave buoys along the New South Wales coast, each showing wave height and period

Forecast · Live buoys

Waves

Height, period and direction, with the wind sea and each swell system shown apart. Live wave buoys along the coast tell you what the sea is doing now, so you can check the forecast against it.

Marine park zones

Know which side of the line you are on. Tap any zone for its name, category and park, and what you may do there: line fishing, spearfishing, collecting, anchoring or crabbing. It answers offline, with each park's own published rules.

The data

Measured, analysed or forecast. The chart says which.

Most fishing apps blend everything into one pretty picture. Sea Layers keeps measurement, analysis and forecast apart, and where a sensor did not see the water, the gap stays visible rather than being filled with an invented value.

Data from NASA and NOAA, Copernicus Marine, ECMWF, IMOS, the Bureau of Meteorology, IMAS and NESP, and Australian marine authorities. The active source, its timing and resolution are shown in the app.

Offshore

Built for when the reception drops.

Pick your regions and layers at home. The app shows what is stored and what is still missing, and the nautical basemap works offline.

On the water

Made in Australia, for Australian water.

Built by a small Australian team who fish these waters, to answer the questions you ask on the way out: where the warm water sits, which way it is moving, and whether the run is worth it.

Take the whole ocean offshore.

Sea Layers is on the App Store for iPhone, covering Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania.

Sea Layers is for planning. Use official charts, marine warnings and proper navigation equipment at sea.
